Jerusalem In The News; Students Showing Respect

We have been talking about Jerusalem and its important role in the religion of Judaism.  Jews believe that Jerusalem is the most sacred place on Earth, and many Jews strive to take a pilgrimage there at least once.

As we study Christianity and Islam, we will learn the reasons that Jerusalem is also very important to followers of those religions.

Yesterday, President Trump announced his plan to move the United States Embassy from Tel Aviv (its current location) to Jerusalem. 

During Core 2, several students engaged in a spirited discussion about whether they agree with the President's plan to move the Embassy. 

Some students feel that President Trump is wisely supporting America's allies in Israel. Other students believe that the President may be unnecessarily angering Muslims who live in Israel.

I was quite impressed with the respectful way that Peyton, Sonia, Harrison, Max and Andrew talked about this complicated issue. And I was even more impressed with the way that they respectfully listened and acknowledged their differences of opinion.

This discussion reminded me that we will not always agree with each other, and this is especially true when it comes to questions about government, politics, and religion. But today's discussion demonstrated that we can always treat each other with courtesy and consideration. Well done, 6th graders.

Griffin : I looked over my shoulder and there it was: the supreme art by so many artists, with the vivid colors popping out at you. I don’t pay attention to the detail of the objects or animals in the picture, but actually the detail of the color of the art. It was outstanding that they used gold so much, even mixing it with the other colors, to represent heaven. I loved the use of brown as well. One of my classmates said that the brown wasn’t as vivid and did not strike out as much. I disagree, because brown can bring the best colors in a picture to life. It almost felt that I was in the picture watching myself in astonishment, seeing myself darting my eyes to everything I saw in the beautiful painted picture.
