Musical Mondays: A Day for the Guitar

For today's Musical Monday selection, we listened to guitarist Luca Stricagnoli's beautiful rendition of Braveheart.

Jack K. pointed out that Mr. Stricagnoli chose to play his instrument in a much different setting than the crowded city street on which Coldplay appeared last Monday. Polina elaborated on Jack's point by saying that she thinks the guitarist wanted his music to connect with nature in a peaceful way.

Max M., meanwhile, used the fantastic word "serenity" to describe the music.

Jake told us that his father plays the guitar, and Jake said that he was impressed with Stricagnoli's technical skills.

Finally, Sophia had this wonderful comment about today's piece:

"The music gave me a feeling like ... [after a long pause] actually, I don't know how to describe the feeling". 

This carving is one of the oldest representations of a guitar-like instrument.

PS: It turns out that there is a clay tablet from ancient Mesopotamia that shows a guitar-like instrument, so people have been strumming the six string for a very long time!

Griffin : I looked over my shoulder and there it was: the supreme art by so many artists, with the vivid colors popping out at you. I don’t pay attention to the detail of the objects or animals in the picture, but actually the detail of the color of the art. It was outstanding that they used gold so much, even mixing it with the other colors, to represent heaven. I loved the use of brown as well. One of my classmates said that the brown wasn’t as vivid and did not strike out as much. I disagree, because brown can bring the best colors in a picture to life. It almost felt that I was in the picture watching myself in astonishment, seeing myself darting my eyes to everything I saw in the beautiful painted picture.
